3D visual development for one of the maquettes I sculpted to set the visual direction for Meta Avatars 2.0, the young athletic persona that defined the youthful, energetic edge of the style.

This is the young, athletic persona, athleisure and a mat over her shoulder on the way to yoga. I chose her to define the youthful, energetic edge of the range and to settle how far the new language could push attitude while staying grounded and real, clear of the uncanny and clear of the toy-like proportions the old avatars were mocked for. The calls that made her work are the calls the whole system inherited: a strong first read so the character registers instantly even at chat-thumbnail size, a clean graphic silhouette, planar structure that holds the light, and the proportions and spacing that separate a face you believe from one that reads generic. When a single lifestyle persona could carry all of that, I knew the direction was ready to become a system.
Meta Avatars 2.0 launched across every Meta platform, with over a billion avatars migrating to the new style. The direction I set in these maquettes became the visual target the entire system was built and measured against.
