Back in 2016, when I was working on Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, I had the pleasure to work on the Spamley, another funny character I sculpted for the movie. A fun-fact, initially he was designed as a yellow fella, but later the art department decided to turn him green. Character design by the stellar team formed by Jeff Merghart, Ami Thompson and Cory Loftis.
Professional Work: Character sculpting, modeling & temp color for the feature movie ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The overall time spent on the character was around 2 weeks for the sculpture and the temp color to get the director’s approval, and then another week for the character cleanup and neutralization. The first part of the process I spend the majority of the time on Pixologic’s zBrush, and then, once it got approved, I used Autodesk Maya in order to let the character ready with all the technicalities to fit successfully downstream the pipeline.
Here you can see a few examples of all the work done on the character during the sculpting process, plus some other images of the final result of the character on the movie. I hope you like it!
